Posted on January 11, 2023

Mohinga is eaten and also liked by all Myanmar people. It is usually cooked in different ways according to the region and is named after the local names. In Dawei, it is called Dawei Mohinga, depending on the recipe and the local name. Dawei Mohinga is a traditional Dawei food.

The main ingredient in Dawei Mohinga is the banana plant. It is not cooked with a banana plant peel, but by slicing the center of the banana plant. The essence of spices such as lemongrass, garlic, ginger, and chili powder is mixed with a lot of oil, It is the life of Dawei Mohinga. To make the soup more palatable, you can add Nga Pote Chaut and fresh fish fillets, which are a must-have.

Unlike other local Mohinga, the Dawei Mohinga soup is thicker and has a lot of oil. To get a much thicker soup, add yellow split peas that are boiled and puffed. Recipes will vary from place to place in Dawei. Some people use Tanyin leaves (Dawei name: lan gawwat) and them with palm juice (Dawei name: Pa Ohn Yi), onions and make more soup.

Dawei Mohinga is used to eating with Si Htamin (making with sticky rice), fried onion, and boiled beans.
