Clam or Shup

Posted on January 12, 2023

Tanintharyi have long coastal and is rich in rivers, streams, and seas, and the abundance of seafood is a definite must-see. A variety of seafood such as fish, shrimp, lobster, squid, and snail can be found in Tanintharyi Division. From this here, would like to introduce one of the traditional foods of Tanintharyi is dried clams.

Dried clams are derived from clams, which are a small snail with two halves of the shell that grows inside mud or sand of lakes, rivers, and streams. It is a triangular shape clam. The people of Tanintharyi peel the shell of clams and inside the meat eats as they like cooked or dried. Also, eat as a pickled clam.

You can get a dried clam by drying it in the sun. Clams pierced with a stick and dried called dried calms stick (Dawei name Shup Thi Chout) can be eaten deliciously by roasting with fire or frying in hot oil. The locals like Shup Thi Chout, which can be eaten as a snack or with hot rice. When you arrive in Tanintharyi, don’t forget to try the sweet and delicious fried Shup Thi Chout (dried calms stick).
